You constantly hear radio announcements when Azhagar (Jai) or Paraman (Sasikumar) is around tea shops. Sasikumar brings out honest, interesting lifestyle of the people and the period. ![]() The story then goes back to 1980 at Subramaniapuram, a place in Madurai. The face of the stabber and the stabbed person is not visible. The scene is beautifully staged, where the camera takes a first person view of the releasing person and the stabber is wearing a sack over his head as its raining. The film starts in 2008, where a person is released from Madurai central jail is being stabbed in front the jail. The city is after all called ‘Thoonga nagaram’ (The city never sleeps). The film’s title credits is rolled over the bustling night life of Madurai. ![]() Subramaniapuram is the work of Sasikumar who has written, produced and directed this action drama set during the period 1980 in Madurai. Anurag Kashyap, the director of the film credits that the film was inspired by movies made by three Tamil directors whom he refers to as ‘Madurai Triumvirate’, Bala, Ameer Sultan & Sasikumar. ‘The Gaurdian’ recently published ‘100 best films of the 21 st century’ which included 2012 gangster drama ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.
